MOD Your XBox 360 and Download Games For Free!

Have you gone to a video game store and realized that the store doesn't have what you want, and had to go to more than one store to find what you're looking for? Or have you ordered something online, and the shipping fell behind a little and you have to wait almost 2 weeks for your game? So has everyone else, and a way to save money and your time is to just download your games. Most of the game systems out there today are trying to be more than a gaming machine, they want to be multimedia machines, and it's easier than you think.
The XBox 360 has hard drives from 20 GB to 120 GB, giving you lots of room to store stuff on there. By downloading your games, you will be able to save gas, and any shipping costs (both are on the rise). You can put on all the new titles like Halo 3, Ninja Gaiden II, and Mass Effect, and you can also download other system games as well. The 360 can also play downloaded PS2, PSP, and XBox games, and you can also play downloaded movies and music.
You won't have to put in any discs, you won't have to put any chips in your 360, you just need to download, play or watch, and enjoy the new multimedia machine you've just created. For half the price of a 360 game, you download unlimited games from 4 different formats, and all the movies and music that you want. It's like going to the game store, and buying one game, and the next time you go into the video game store you take whatever you want for free, no questions asked.
Enjoy!

Xbox Live Hard Drive - 3 Things You MUST Know Before Buying the Xbox 360 250GB Hard Drive!

The Xbox 360 hard drive is an almost vital accessory for helping you really get the most out of your console. From saving movies to online gaming, the Xbox 360 250GB Hard Drive really expands the gamers experience and pleasure. In fact I save many action games such as Modern Warfare2 to my hard drive because it causes the console to heat up less;therefore giving the system a longer life span. But as wonderful as this 250 GB memory unit is, there are 3 VERY IMPORTANT details you must consider before you buy it!This can save money and time, and most importantly;protect your important games and game profiles.

  1. Transfer Cable - The data transfer cable that comes with the larger hard drives should always be used! Do Not simply "recover" the account via Xbox live unless absolutely neccessary! It may take longer initially, but your chances of losing your valuable gamesaves and more are greatly lessened. Trust me on this... don't lose valuable savepoints when you are playing in veteran/hardcore mode; it will not be worth the crying. Also note: you CANNOT use this cable to transfer your data to a smaller hard drive. Only from a smaller hard drive to a larger one.
  2. Price - At roughly $130. (at this time), certainly not the most economical deal on hard drives. But sadly, I paid about the same price for my old 60GB drive nearly 2 years ago. This is BY FAR the most "economical" Xbox 360 memory unit released to date.
  3. Buying Used Memory Units: Don't do it! - This author highly recommends AGAINST buying used memory devices for gaming consoles; it is way too easy to get ripped off for several reasons. Often times people will sell their Xbox 360 hard drive or memory unit because they have been banned from logging onto Xbox Live for cheating, modding, or simply being abusive to other players. Regardless of the reason, if you end up with this "banned" memory unit; you can forget about ever using it for online play, PERIOD! Microsoft's policy forbids them from ever allowing a banned memory unit access to their servers forever. Also if you purchase a unit online which is faulty, you will probably have trouble getting your money back. I have actually had Paypal refuse to refund my money from a seller because even though the item was stolen, I still received it!Dont take that chance with your money.

How to Repair an Xbox 360 - 2 Tips You Can Try

Here are some tips on how to repair a xbox 360 console. If you are getting screen freezes or the dreaded 3 ring of death here are two things you can try to start with.
First, unplug the power. Remove the hard drive. Plug in your game console. Press the power button. If that worked your in luck. Now shut the power off and hook your hard drive back in. Still working? Great, you fixed it!
Second thing you can try is to unplug your Xbox 360. Remove the hard drive. Remove all the cables plugged into your console, including the video and anything else that can be disconnected. Plug in the console. Start it up. Did it work? Shut it off and hook everything back in, including the hard drive. Power it up again. If it works, great. Neither one of the tips corrected your problem you may have a more serious problem and will have to look deeper into your game console.
Microsoft has extended their warranty support of the Xbox 360 in order to accommodate owners who have become so frustrated with their game unit. You may want to check if your unit is still covered by there extended warranty before tearing it apart.
The big issue with the console is overheating. Make sure your console is getting enough ventilation. Do not enclose it in a cabinet or throw your blanket over the top of it. Is it laying on a thick carpet or rug? Make sure it can get enough air circulation. Before plugging it back in, use your compressed air to blow all the vents clean of dust and particles. I was at a friend's house and the vents on the console were so clogged with dust and dog hair I was amazed that it was still working.
Fixing your 360 yourself is not difficult, as long as you are comfortable opening up the machine yourself and following instructions. Just note that if you do open it to repair it on your own, you'll void any warranties on it. If the idea of opening up the box and working on it yourself makes you nervous, it might be better to wait the 2-8 weeks it may take for Microsoft to take care of it for you. Of course it will cost you $140 plus shipping and there is no guarantee they will repair it.
Screen freezes are the beginning of a more serious problem. Make sure your console is not getting too hot. If you catch this problem early enough you can save yourself a more costly repair.

Xbox 360 Overheating Issues (COOL)

Since the new XBox 360s came out, there has been lots of talk about overheating issues. According to Microsoft, this accounts for just a tiny percent of all their machines, but there are an awfully lot of overheating stories out there. Lots of XBox fans aren't happy with the way they're dealing with the problem.
Here's what usually happens: In the middle of a hot game your console freezes up. This happens a few more times, and then you see the Red Rings Of Death. The RR of D is not a feature of XBox, nor a foe in a fantasy game. The RR of D means that you're machine is overheating. Some people have reported seeing an orange screen flashing as well. The Rings shut down your machine and you lose your unsaved data. What it means is that it's overheated.
Some machines overheat after hours of play, but some do in as quickly as 10 minutes. Either way, the machine is defective and something has to be done about it.
Now, you can either send the machine in for repairs, or you can fix it yourself. Lots of gamers have been peeved at Microsoft's slow response to their overheating woes. They say that Microsoft is slow to repair the units. Often, they will offer a refurbished unit instead. Refurbished machines are as good as new, so it sounds pretty good, but there are tons of stories online of defective replacement machines. Some XBox owners have gone through 3 or 4 machines, all of which overheated!
It's a pretty sad state of affairs. Overheat sufferers claim that the company's customer service is less than helpful, and that they fail to adequately take responsibility for their faulty machines.
There are a few things you can do on your own to deal with overheating. Just like any other electronics, try to keep the back of the console clear so that the hot air can escape. With a well-made machine, this shouldn't be a problem, but if you have it all the way back against the wall, it might be a factor in why it overheats.
Supposedly, the root of the overheating problem in XBox 360s is that they tried to cut corners by using cheaply made, slow fans. There are 2 fans on either side, and they are really important for cooling the console. You can always reach back there and feel if the unit feels very cold or super hot. If one of the fans is not turning, or if it is going too slowly, you might want to replace the fan yourself. Of course, it shouldn't be YOUR responsibility to do that, but considering all the headaches customers have had with Microsoft's replacement machines, it just might save you some trouble.
If you send the machine in for a new fan, they may try to gouge you for it. If you look on the web (check eBay), you can find the exact same fans that are used in the XBox 360 for as low as $10. It isn't too difficult to replace the fan yourself, and you can find schematics and tutorials online to help you.
Another minor repair you can do yourself is to put some Arctic Silver 5 on the heatsink. This is a cooling compound that you can buy online. If you apply it on the heatsink, which is located just between the CPU and the fans, it will cool down the components. People who have used Arctic Silver report great results. It seems to keep the unit from ever overheating again.
Remember also that your XBox 360 has a year long warrantee. The original warrantees were six months, but they've since extended it, and it's retroactive. That means if you bought yours within the last year, it still should be covered.
If you would like to save time and money you can fix your Xbox 360 yourself today using simple step by step VIDEO instructions and you could be playing your games again in 30 minutes starting from now!
